Robert Ross Obituary

ROSS – Robert A. “Bob,” 86, Oakland, passed away July 16, 2014, at home. Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Salix, son of Harry and Mary (Caroff) Ross. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Delores Fritz and Betty Bailey; and brother, Eugene Ross. Survived by loving wife of 63 years, the former Gloria Berkebile; loving sons, Dave, married to the former Kathleen Deter, Danville, Pa.; and John R. “J.R.,” married to the former Melissa Carpenter, Johnstown; grandchildren, Justin, and wife, Jessi; Patrick; Jeffrey; Corbin; and Fontana Ross; and great-grandchildren, Brady, Annie and Lila Ross. Member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Moxham. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired with 37 years of service from Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a craneman. He was a part time tractor-trailer driver for United Metal Fabricators. He started his career with Johnstown Traction Co. as a bus and trolley driver. His favorite job was with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, having served 17 years. Bob loved sports and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He was a baseball coach with Geistown Little League and coached Hi-Way Hardware in the Johnstown Colt League. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and the Rivers Casino with his wife. He also enjoyed playing bingo. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Moxham, the Rev. Walter Moll, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
