BANTLY – Robert A., 92, Johnstown, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 5, 1922, in Johnstown, son of Milton H. and Mazie (Kring) Bantly. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Ruth Jane; son, William “Billy” Bantly; and brother, Chalmer H. Bantly. Survived by son, Robert M. (Barbara) Bantly; daughters, Joyce (Tim) Leberknight, Karen (John) Lux, Barbara (Robert) Allison and Janette Bantly; grandchildren, Tricia L. Deneen, Alissa J. (Ron) Flowers, Mark and Megan Leberknight, Michael and Allison Lux and Aaron and Adam Allison; great-grandson, Ryan Deneen; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law. Robert was a 1940 graduate of Dale High School, and served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He managed Ben Franklin 5 and 10 cent store in Cumberland, Md., and was the former owner of Bantly Hardware. Robert was a former Dale Borough councilman, leader for BSA Troup 16, committeeman for Beulah United Methodist Church and Ferndale Area School Board member for 24 years. He was a former member of Masonic Greater Johnstown Lodge 538, and was the grandson of charter member, Mrs. W.H. Bantly of Beulah Evangelical Church. Robert taught Sunday school, served five terms on the board of trustees and was a steward board member for Beulah United Methodist Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor John R. Virgin, officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beulah United Methodist Church board of trustees.
