Koontz, Margaret, 85, of Lorain Borough, died April 3, 2022, at Conemaugh Hospital. Her passing ended a life notable for her fighting spirit that allowed her to endure and surmount many difficult stretches. She was born November 29, 1936, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Frank and Etta (Vore) Gorden. Preceded in death by husbands Sam Ross Sr. and Derston Koontz. Also preceded in death by brothers Jackie, Walter, Robert, Albert, Joseph and Franklin (Dook). Survived by sons Clair Ross and Sam Ross Jr. (Ruby). Also survived by grandson Anthony Ross (Hannah) and three great granddaughters Nikki (October) Nunn, Noelle Ross and Vanessa ('Nessa) Ross. Also survived by Mary (Gorden) Smith, a niece whom Margaret considered a sister, as well as Mary's daughters Mary, Lisa and Barbara. Other survivors include various members of her extended family. Margaret will be remembered for her sugar cookies that delighted both her family and the children at the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, where she was a long-time member and had her second wedding ceremony performed. Margaret worked various jobs in the food and retail industries, but her passion was her family. Margaret enjoyed various crafts and was fond of her pet dogs and feeding wild birds. She was a charitable person, supporting many causes and making a special point to feed Salvation Army kettles whenever she encountered them as well as the bell ringers. She will be sadly missed, but not forgotten. Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday at Geisel Funeral Home - Johnstown where funeral service will be held 12:30pm Friday Pastor Brad Griesheimer officiating. Interment Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the favorite charities of the individuals.
