Rummel, John E. Sr., 92, of Clarion, PA, formerly of Johnstown, passed away March 25, 2017, in Clarion, PA. Born April 18, 1924, in Johnstown, son of Elmer L. and Viola (Adams) Rummel. Preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Edward C. Rummel; sisters, Mildred and Margaret; and brother, Francis. Survived by wife and companion of 72 years the former Elaine Knepper; children, John E. Rummel Jr., married to the former Linda Wagstaff, Clarion, and Deborah, married to Fredrick Byers, St. Marys, Georgia; grandchildren, Martin T. Rummel, Jill D. Kindya, Jennifer D. Willard; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Clifford Rummel, married to Jane, Florida. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Andres. He was very proud to serve with the Civilian Conservation Corp. John was a great storyteller, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment, Benshoff Hill Cemetery.
