GAY – John E., 87, Johnstown, passed away Sept. 26, 2014, at home. Born Sept. 16, 1927, in Johnstown, son of Thomas and Grace (Bagley) Gay. Preceded in death by parents; son, Michael; brother, Thomas; and sister, Leona Burns. Survived by loving wife of 43 years, the former Alma Wicknick; loving daughters, Barbara Lawton, Virginia Beach, Va., and Denise Giardina, Johnstown; loving son, Donald, married to former Darlene Fruend, South Park; and grandchildren, Brooke Gywn; Michael Giardina, married to Stephanie; Heather Stasny; and Alexandra, Kayla and Alyssa Rigby. U.S. Army veteran 20 years, serving in Vietnam. Also a 19-year employee of The Tribune-Democrat. Member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. David Streets, officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery. Graveside military service in charge of Conemaugh Valley Detachment 287, Marine Corps League.
