John W. Collins

COLLINS – John W., 82, Johnstown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at home. Born in a log cabin on Nov. 9, 1933, in Maitlan, son of John W. and Sylvia (Smith) Collins. Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, former Barbara Dunbar; children, John Collins, Pittsburgh; Jeffrey Collins, married to former Denise Irons, Texas; Cindy, wife of William Bode, Washington, D.C.; and Amy, wife of James Vizzini, Johnstown; grandchildren, John, Chris, David, Amanda, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Justin, Jordan, Kaitlin, James, Cara and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Catherine and Paisley; sister, Donna, wife of James Williams; brothers-in-law, William and Ralph Dunbar; sister-in-law, Sondra Leidy; and special friend, Abby. John was a 1952 graduate of Dale High School. He was a 14-year veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force as a tech sergeant. Worked for U.S. Steel and served as a Dale Borough councilman and board of directors of the Central Pennsylvania Coal Producers Association. Retired manager of human resources and labor relations for the Eastern Division of North American Coal Corp. and subsidiary companies. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. with eulogy beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown. Private interment.
