Clark, Genevieve , "Jenny", 91, died November 15, 2022 at her home in Ferndale. Born June 22, 1931 in Shade Township, Somerset County, the daughter of Alton Herring Shaffer and Wilhelmina E. B. "Minnie" (Schatz) Shaffer. Genevieve was the widow of Orbie Clark, Jr. who died February 13, 1983. She is survived by daughters Carolyn Genevieve Clark and Helen Louise (Clark) Jones, widow of Robert L. Jones, both of Johnstown; and brothers and sisters: Shirley, widow of David L. Miller of Lewistown, Pa.; Sara, wife of Grover Webber of Clear Spring, Maryland; Robert W. Shaffer of Boca Raton, Florida; Harry F. Shaffer of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and Sammie Joe Shaffer of Johnstown. Genevieve was predeceased by brothers Lee A. Shaffer; Dennis R. Shaffer; Edward G. Shaffer; and sister Mary Jane (Shaffer) Norton. Genevieve and her husband Orbie Clark, Jr. were married at his parents' home at 257 David St. and lived at 211 David St. for 23 years. She always retained fond memories of their life there. Genevieve (Shaffer) Clark has an entry in "The Studebaker Family in America 1736-1986" book. She was a descendant of the immigrant Clement Studebaker through her great-grandmother Frances Berkebile, wife of Hiram Shaffer of Hooversville. Genevieve's great-grandfather Henry Allen Herring of Albemarle, Virginia served in Co. E, 19th Virginia Infantry during the Civil War, and her great-great-great-grandfather James Herring, Sr. served as a private in the Albemarle County Virginia Militia during the American Revolutionary War. Genevieve's maternal great-grandmother Elizabeth (Wirth) Schatz died in the 1889 Johnstown Flood. There will be a private graveside service and interment in Grandview Cemetery.
