RHODES – Dorothy May, was called home to be with the Lord March 23, 2015, at McCullough Place. Born May 2, 1920, in Johnstown to Harvey B. and Martha (McCreary) Miller. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold B. Rhodes; parents; sisters, June Devoy (Don Hazel), Gertrude Caroline (George Ahlborn) and Flornell “Sis” Miller; brothers, Randall (Ruth) and Ray Miller; son-in-law, Harry Horner III; and grandson-in-law, James M. Smouse. Also preceded in death by her best friend of more than 80 years, Anna Jean (Rogers) Kuchenbrod. Survived by daughters, Beverly A. Altemus (David) and Denise D. Kishlock (William); beloved grandchildren, Natalee Altemus Smouse, Terry Horner (Jen) and Chris Horner (Missy), all of Johnstown; and Tim Horner (Carol), residing in Texas; stepgrandsons, Brandon (Lori), Jenners; and Todd Kishlock (Christine), California; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also survived by her caring “family” at McCullough Place, where Dorothy resided for the past three years. Many thanks to Stacy, Chuck and the staff at McCullough Place for the wonderful love and care they provided, always going over and above, and to Steve and Jenny, her meal companions. Dorothy was the manager of S&H Green Stamps in Johnstown for more than 25 years, and a lifelong member of Oakland United Methodist Church, where she served on the financial board. No visitation at Dorothy’s request. Donations may be made to CORE.org (Center for Organ Recovery and Education) in honor of her granddaughter, Natalee, or to Windber Hospice. Geisel Funeral Home will care for Dorothy until her interment at Richland Cemetery.
