HUNTER – David, 89, Johnstown, passed away Nov. 28, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 23, 1924, in Rayne, Pa., son of Robert and Florence (Frech) Hunter. Preceded in death by parents; son, Bruce Hunter; granddaughter, Sarah Hunter; an infant grandson; brothers, Robert and Daniel Hunter; and sisters, Dorothy Shuster and Mary Ellen Hunter. Survived by loving wife of 65 years, the former Leona Strapple; loving children, Robert, married to Shirley, Lancaster; Carrick, married to Peggy, Houston, Texas; David, married to Joyce, Morrison, Colo.; Rebecca Hunter, Martinsburg, W.Va.; and Gordon, married to Jill, Scott Depot, W.Va.; daughter-in-law, Donna Hunter, Johnstown; grandchildren, Jill Couturiaux, Ryan Lester, Rosamund Hunter, Jennifer Doerre, Benjamin Hunter, Matthew Hunter, Alan Williams, Daniel Hunter, David Hunter, Dylan Hunter and Cameron Hunter; great-grandchildren, Cameron Lester, Elizabeth Doerre and William Doerre; and brothers and sisters, Thomas Hunter, married to Thea, Houston, Texas; Doris, married to Alton Harper, Johnstown; Florence, married to Norbert Jordan, Johnstown; James Hunter, married to Alma, Houston, Texas; and Nancy, married to Robert Altemus, Millberry, Mass. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Retired from Bethlehem Steel in the plant protection division with 30 years of service. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1944, and was a UPJ graduate, Class of 1973. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany, Belgium and France. He was taken prisoner of war in Bad Orb, Germany, until he was freed by Allied Forces in 1945. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown, the Rev. Robert Arbano, officiating.
