Betty J. Berkebile

Berkebile, Betty J., passed away Monday, January 25th, 2021 at St Jude's Haven , a beloved mother and grandmother went to be with the lord at the age of 84. Betty was the middle child of five children, mother of one, a grandmother of three. She attended Johnstown High, where one of her passions was being a majorette. After Betty graduated from Johnstown High, she was one of the head organizers of the Ferndale Twirlettes. She then went on to work at Bali Bra. When Bali Bra closed she started at Bethlehem steel as a Laborer. She worked her way up to become one of the few women welders at that time. When Bethlehem closed Betty applied and received a position at Sunnehanna Country Club as a Ladies Locker Room Attendant. It started as a Job, but over the 35 years it became a passion. She wasn't just a locker room attendant she was a Jack of all trades at Sunnehanna. She organized different member parties and functions, helped out on the golf course, assisted in kids activities, and aided in the dining room. She always had great rapport with the members. After 35 years of dedicated service to Sunnehanna she retired in 2015. During retirement she became a member at the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, where she volunteered at the food pantry every other Thursday and attended church on Sundays. She loved to participate in the church's rummage sales and traveling to Maryland with the church to volunteer her services. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Myrtle and William Cornell, and siblings Sheldon Cornell, Dorothy Harrison, Robert Cornell, and Sandra Jackson. She is survived by daughter Deborah Humphreys, loving grandsons Joseph Rick Berkebile, Jacob Humphreys, adopted granddaughter Chyanne Shaffer, and first cousin Linda Rummel. Friends will be received Thursday from 10 am up until the time of service at 12 pm. at Geisel Funeral Home - Johnstown, Pastor Brad Griesheimer officiating. Private interment.
